WASHINGTON – Today Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin announced plans to address contamination from the toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.
The announcement suggests the EPA will delay compliance with new PFAS drinking water standards and will exempt some polluters from PFAS cleanup requirements.
The following is a statement from Melanie Benesh, the Environmental Working Group’s vice president for government affairs:
We all have PFAS in our blood, increasing our risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. While the details are scarce, today’s announcement suggests the Trump EPA will delay efforts to reduce PFAS in our tap water, exempt polluters from reducing and reporting their PFAS releases, fail to turn off the tap of PFAS pollution fouling our air and water, and block states from protecting us from PFAS in our everyday products.
